Lord Lucan went to friend's home after nurse died By Michael Horsnell and Clive Borrell Lord Lucan called at the home of a friend, Mr Ian Maxwell-Scott, a cousin of 'the Duke of Norfolk, at Uck- field, Sussex, late on Thursday night, it was learnt yesterday. That was about three hours after the murder of his children's. nannie and the attack on his wife. 'The two have known each otlher for about 20 years and occasionally gambled together dt. the Clermont Club in May- fair; but on Thursday Mr Max- well-Scott was in London and only his wife, Mrs Susan Max- well-Scott, and two of her children were at home. Mrs Maxwell-Scott, aged 38, said yesterday: "I was very surprised, when he [Lord Lucan) arrived at about 11.30 at night and stayed until about 1.15 am, during which time he wrote those two letters to Mr William Shand-Kydd, bis brother-in-law. He also tele- yhoned to his mother at about Mrs Maxwell-Scott, mother of six children, who has made a statement to the police about Lord Lucan's visit, would not comment on his demeanour, his appearance, or their conversa- tion. She also declined to say whether he sought advice from her or whether she gave any. She added that Lord Lucan declined a meal and left in a car. * Friends of Lord Lucan with whom he mxay be staying. were asked last night by Scotland Yard to get in touch with themn immediately. " He is wanted urgently for questioning"; Det Chief Supt Roy Ranson said. He is the officer in charge of the investigation into the death of Mrs Sandra Rivett, aged 29, nursemaid of his three children, and the attack on his. wife at her home in Lower Belgrave Street, London. " We are not searching for anyone else ", Mr Ranson added. An armed police guard has been placed on the ward at St George's Hospital where Lady Lucan is recoveririg from severe head injuries inflicted by a man who attacked her. Shle arrived at her home as a man- was try- ing to carry away Mrs Rivett's body in a sack from a basement flat. Lady Lucan has described her attacker and given the police a name; she says she recognized the man before he escaped. Interpol has been alerted and a description of the man has been sent to all European !Iir and sea ports. Reports- that Lord Lucan, aged 39,. crossed -to Dieppe on the Newhaven ferry at the week- end were discounted by the police last night.
