Colin Jordan's plea fails Lord Parker, of Waddington, the Lord Chief Justice, yesterday re- fused to grant Colin Jordan, the National Socialist leader, legal assis- tance to apply for a write of habeas cu-pies. Mr. Jordan is in Exeter prison serving an 18-month sentence passed at Devon Assizes on January 25 for offences against the Race Relations Act. The Court refused to allow MIr. J. D. F. Knight, a friend, to apply on his behalf. Lord Parker said Mr. Jordan put forward the ground that the Act in question wvas invalid as being a cur- tailment of the right of free speech. Lord Parker continued: " How- ever, in this country Parliament is supreme and there is no power in the courts to question the validity of an Act of Parliament. The ground is completely unarguable."
