'A Man for All Seasons' gets four Oscars Fronm Our Own Corresnnnd.,.nt NEW YoRK, APRIL 11 British films and British actors and actresses took most of the wards at last night's presentation of " Oscars " by the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences. The ceremony, held in Santa Monica, California, was watched by an estimated audience of 70 million television viewers, the Aftra strike having only just been settled. The British fim A Mani For All Seasons won six Oscars as against five for the Hollywood production Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf ? The former was acclaimed as the best picture of 1966. It also won Oscars for Mr. Paul Scofield in the title role, for Mr. Fred Zinnemann the director, and for colour cinemato- graphy, costume design, and screen- play. Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf ? drew awards for Miss Elizabeth Tay- lor as the best actress of 1966, also for black and white cinematography, costume design, and art direation. Miss Sandy Dennis, who plays the part of the young professor's wife in the film, received the award for the best supporting actress. Neither Miss Taylor nor Mr. Scofield was present to receive the Oscar. The former, who is in France completing The Comedians, a film based on a novel by Graham Greene. was represented by Miss Anne Ban- croft Mr. Scofield's award was accepted on his behalf by Miss Wendy HiUer, who plays the part of his wi?e in A Man For All Seasons.
