Curing Receding Chins To many of the visitors at the annual clinical at home of the Royal Dental Hospital on Saturday one of the most interesting of all the exhibitions of the scope of work undertaken by the hospital was that of replacing the receding chin with the square jaw and jutting mandible beloved of all fiction writers. Rows of patients possessing interesting dental histories and reclaimed areas sat in dentists' chairs while a constant stream of visiting dentists, old students, and others in- spected their maloclusions and the remedies. Among the patients in the children's ortho- pontic department were several who had been cured of receding chins and too prominent teeth by either removable or fixed appliances. One little girl revelled in her importance to such an extent, and was so well used to being the subject of a lecture, that from time to time she was able to prompt the visitors when they drew wrong conclusions. One of the problems the hospital is facing is that while the English race's jaws are becoming smaller Nature has not been able to adjust her output of teeth, although there are distinct signs that she is making an effort to reduce the supply. A demonstration of the strides made in the treatment of growths in the gums by diathermy was given by a specialist in which the affected tissue, after a few seconds of treatment, gradually melted away, leaving sound gum underneath. In the Kallodent dentures depart- ment the visitor could see evidence of efforts to make false teeth more real and more beautiful. The Royal' Dental Hospital is the* only independent dental hospital in Great Britain and is also the oldest. CURING RECEDING CHINS SUCCESS OF DENTAL TREATMENT
